Simple Basmati Rice

Basmati rice, a long grain rice grown in Northern India, is aged for 2 to 3 years to develop flavor. We like to serve this rice with an intense fragrant curry like the Kerala vegetable stew or a hearty meat stew.

Cook Time

25 Minutes + Soak Time

Step 1
Rinse the basmati rice in cold water 2 to 3 times. Soak for about 30 minutes to an hour.
Step 2
In a medium sized stockpot, combine the rice and water and bring to a boil. Lower the heat, cover and simmer for 8 to 10 minutes or until the rice is dry. Turn the heat off and let the rice rest for 5 to 10 minutes.
Step 3
Stir it gently with a fork. Top as desired or eat it plain.

1 cup basmati rice

1 1/2  cups water

Optional toppings:


Ghee

Olive oil

Lemon juice

Sea salt 

Lime juice
